Marine jay hylton from Swadlincote in Derbyshire died on the Shatt al-Arab river, the main waterway
on the north eastern outskirts of Basra city. On Sunday 12th of November 2006, elements of the boat
group were conducting a routine patrol of the waterway, moving from south to north,As part of this
patrol, it was necessary to negotiate a number of areas where movement is constrained. One of these
points is a pontoon bridge.
While near the pontoon bridge, one of the rigid raiding craft came under attack from an improvised
explosive device and this killed Marine Hylton as well as causing 3 other marines to lose there
lives.
Jay who was divorced leaves behind to sons Joshua 16 and Nathan 13,
Mum and DAD Ann and Pat and brothers Darren and mick.
Jay was allways life and soul of the party and allways had a smile on his face when you were feeling
down he would be the one to pick you up.
Hundreds of people lined the streets on the day of his funeral to say goodbye in there own way it
showed how popular and liked Jay was.
Ill never forget his smiling face and allways think of him when i hear the Boyzone song ' No
Matter What ' he/we would allways sing his kareoke favourite.

People told me that things would get easier.....they dont!! I cant cope I don't know where my life goes from here I dont know how to do anything or what i should be doing!!! I saw your message on Aaron lincolns site what a waste of young life i cant imagine how you are all coping my friend had her 2 only sons die in a space of 8 months. my heart goes out to aarons,yours, and my friend and all the other countless families lft behind after these unessesary deaths god bless you all karen and rip jay
