Marine jay hylton from Swadlincote in Derbyshire died on the Shatt al-Arab river, the main waterway
on the north eastern outskirts of Basra city. On Sunday 12th of November 2006, elements of the boat
group were conducting a routine patrol of the waterway, moving from south to north,As part of this
patrol, it was necessary to negotiate a number of areas where movement is constrained. One of these
points is a pontoon bridge.
While near the pontoon bridge, one of the rigid raiding craft came under attack from an improvised
explosive device and this killed Marine Hylton as well as causing 3 other marines to lose there
lives.

Jay who was divorced leaves behind to sons Joshua 16 and Nathan 13,
Mum and DAD Ann and Pat and brothers Darren and mick.

Jay was allways life and soul of the party and allways had a smile on his face when you were feeling
down he would be the one to pick you up.

Hundreds of people lined the streets on the day of his funeral to say goodbye in there own way it
showed how popular and liked Jay was.

Ill never forget his smiling face and allways think of him when i hear the Boyzone song ' No
Matter What ' he/we would allways sing his kareoke favourite.
im sure we will meet again some day RIP mate !!!! (Brummie )

Thinking of you

Hi Pal
We have been thinking of you all weekend seen you on the news last week and couldnt stop thinking about this weekend coming and especially today.
We went to grave yard on saturday and seen your bench it looks great.
We went to the remembrance ceremony at the Centopath it was very emotional there were lots of people there your family some of your old school friends and some of the Marines turned up to pay there respects amounst others its such a shame that you are making the news and papers for the wrong reasons.
We went back up to the grave yard today to leave our flowers hope you like them, Josh and Nathan were there and they let off 33 blue ballons for you make sure you catch them all mate there sent with love.
You surely are missed by everybody you definately left your mark on everyone how could anyone forget get that smiling happy face and witty sense of humour.
Look after yourself mate and keep watching over all the people that love and miss you.
God bless you

Thinking of you

My husband knew you as Paris, the bootneck sense of humour! My husband was doing the same job in Iraq as you just a few weeks before. I am one of the lucky ones. He came to your funeral but hasnt said much since, keeps his feelings in, am sure he talks to the lads though, as it should be. I know he was and is still gutted about what happened, he knows it could have been him sitting in that seat and he misses you. Thinking of you today and after reading the tributes on here you have some amazing friends and family who are keeping your memory alive, but just to let you know the Royal Marine family will never ever let it fade either. God bless you and thank you for everything you did, a true Hero in every sense of the word. RIP X X

Hi Jay, been watching the site since it has started, checking it every couple of weeks. Funny to see what you have been doing to Brummie. Rick and me talk about you on text now and then, still hard to believe. I didn't know you as well as the others on here, but spent a few seasons at the Barley, and always remember my first Blackpool trip with you and the Barley lads. Happy days. It's almost a year since you left now, I guess you never expect it to happen to someone you know. Anyway, keep an eye on your loved ones and maybe give Brummie a nudge over the finish line next season. take care bud and will think of you especially this Sunday.
